No jury duty on Friday so I will give you an update.

The Johns Hopkins University Money Grubbers story was a crowd pleaser and we have an update.

Every person who responded EXCEPT ONE, agreed with it and they are tired of being hit up for money at the holidays. And the one? One person wrote in and said as an alumni, everyone at his college was told they had to give $10,000 a year to the college. WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!?????? First of all, unless everyone at the college was on scholarship, you can’t tell people they are obligated to give $10,000 a year. That is crazy. Some people can’t afford it. Some people have student loans forever. Unless you went to school in Utah and are a Mormon, there are people like me who would just love to buck this unfair system. How much money has the President of staff given? Why dump the future of the school on alumni? This also a media goldmine. I no longer wonder why so many colleges are in financial trouble. You can’t obligate people financially for the rest of their lives.

I have to give a little background on why this is so bad to me. In New Mexico, we have been living with the UNM Foundation using money to send “certain” people to Scotland to play golf - FREE. The Foundation and Lobo Club, it seems, was a pocketbook to the Athletic Department. They have at least one lawsuit that I have seen, are being investigated by the Attorney General, and have gotten tons of bad publicity for the University that still goes on. The result: people have quit, enrollment is way down, and giving is off. The University is in big trouble and in the hole for millions. Is this isolated? No!

So I am transferring that to the The JHU and I am not saying they have done anything wrong but money gives birth to problems and a lack of accountability. That is one of the reasons I am mad – that along with being harassed.

On Thursday, my 94 year old mother, who also was solicited, asked to be removed from the harassment list. I was told if she wanted to do it here was a number to call and I passed the email along to her. You see, I think she is old enough to make her own decisions on who to donate to and who she wants harassing her. She is not a JHU alumni so she can do want she wants. As a result, she was treated badly on the phone and her email comment was, “Do they understand English?” Probably not. They understand money.

As a result, they lost a big, ongoing donation. I used to like Hopkins but I won’t go there anymore. The mystery President hasn’t uttered a word. He probably doesn’t care. All of this could have been avoided easily and early and saved the bad publicity and potential donors. Got to change that will in 2019!!!!
