This Is the Stupidest Thing I Have Heard Today!

State official refuses to allow a background check? What gives?

New Mexico Public Education Department Secretary-Designee, Christopher Ruszkowski, is refusing to do a background check and as a result he won’t be confirmed. His refusing to consent prevents the New Mexico Legislature from scheduling confirmation hearings. Of course, the session ends at noon Thursday so he won’t be confirmed. And, if there is a Democratic Governor elected in November, then speculation is he is out. Good riddance.

New Mexico requires teachers, administrators, and others in education to have a background check and you would think the PED Secretary-Designee would have one too. But you would be wrong. Governor Martinez’s office said that the Secretary-Designee had a “rigorous background check before he was appointed in April, 2-16.” The PED supports all school employees having background checks and fingerprinting. But not the Secretary–Designee. The Governor is blaming Senator Linda Lopez for the whole mess like she refused to have a background check?

So, when I heard the report, it immediately jumped into my mind, “What is he trying to hide?” Did he claim some education in his background and lied about it? Does he have a record? Why do you refuse to do a background check if something isn’t right? Why is he better than the teachers and school employees who have to do a background check?

It is another in the continuing flood of stupid things from NMPED. Maybe that is why he doesn’t know any science or history when he wants to re-write the standards? Dumbing down perhaps?
