National Bookmobile Day – April 11 & National Library Workers Day – April 10

Two days that are really important, especially to those living far from a library – Bookmobile and Library Workers days. They still have bookmobiles in many parts of the country but they are too poor or too far away from a library.

I remember when the bookmobile came to the great outskirts of Timonium, Maryland. Yes, we could drive to a library, but there was something different and fun about a bookmobile. You can get a lot of books in a bookmobile!

In rural parts of New Mexico, it is very necessary to have a bookmobile for contact to the outside world. You can get books, order books, or just talk with different people on Bookmobile days.

Here is a raised glass to all those people, volunteers and paid staff, who work in the libraries. Paid staff they – like teachers – don’t get enough for the job they do.

Libraries and Bookmobiles are important. Let’s keep both open! Our President may not read but we do!
