HAPPY 4TH!

Slim Randles said it best!

I love being an American. It’s really like winning the geographical and political lottery.  By accident of birth, I was born here and automatically achieved what so many people have had to work so hard to attain.
And the Fourth of July just welds my feet more firmly into the stirrups of being an American. All of us stand together, at least inside, on this special day and put aside our differences and enjoy friends and family and good food and maybe a game of softball. It doesn’t really matter what we do as long as it’s fun and we’re kind to others as we do it.
We don’t have to agree on everything in order to love each other. I didn’t vote the same way my parents voted when they were with us. I don’t agree politically with my brothers and my sister. I don’t even vote for the same people as my wife.
But I don’t have to to love them. We can love each other and find the wonderful good things about each other and let the politicians go soak their heads … at least for this special day of ours.
Oh, they get on radio and teevee and tell us our nation is going down the tubes because of this guy or that guy and there’s no hope for us.
But they fail to realize that saying stuff like that which I think is nuts actually promises all of us a future. Because we CAN disagree. We CAN say our friend doesn’t know how to vote. We CAN criticize our leaders and still be hanging around tomorrow to do it again.
That’s our strength. That’s what is so terrifically special about our way of life. I may think your views are wrong, but I’ll defend to the death your right to have them and express them.
Because I’m lucky enough to be an American, and that’s what Americans do.

I’m Slim Randles and this is Home Country.

Thanks to my ol' partner, Slim
