UNM Regents Kill Sports That Work in Favor of Losers!
The nit-wits at UNM picked four teams – boys and girls skiing, soccer, and beach volleyball, to be axed in 2019, to make up a $1.9M deficit in the Athletic Department brought on by bad attendance at all events, over and illegal spending, coach buy-outs, and the incredibly stupid actions of Paul Krebs, former Athletic Director.
Now you might say, well, if $1.9M had to be made up then that is how the balls fall. But the ever brilliant minds at UNM only will make up half of the deficit by axing those four teams. You see the Regents, Athletic Department Director, and new UNM President Stokes don’t know how to add. That is how they got in this mess in the first place.
Three of the four teams have major, like National Champions, titles. Not so much the treasured football and frankly basketball teams that no one watches anymore. And why should they? And some of the players find more time to be arrested than play their sport or keep up their grades. Did I mention that the students on the cut teams have high GPAs?
This was also the mentality on crushing UNM Press. Who needs books at a university? Everyone involved ought to be ashamed of themselves. And this is a clear message, if you are a potential student athlete, go somewhere else!
