Spanish In Montana & Spanish Market in Gallup

I guess we have lost our minds in the country — we are now losing our freedom of speech!

Spanish In Montana

Two women were detained by Border Patrol agents because they were speaking Spanish in a store 30 miles from the Canadian Border. They could have been speaking Italian, French, Chinese but they spoke the hated Spanish.

Have we lost our minds?

The Constitution guarantees freedom of speech no matter what language it is in. Did the agent have better things to do with his time? Two women are not going to be terrorists just because they spoke Spanish.

We have lost our minds!!!!!

Sacred Heart Spanish Market in Gallup – June 1,2, 3

I have been lucky to be a vendor in the Sacred Heart Spanish Market at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup, for 3 years and now we have the 4
th year on June 1, 2, & 3. Let’s get it out of the way – I am not Spanish and don’t have traditional Hispanic art to sell. BUT, I do have books and some of my books feature New Mexico’s Hispanic artists. And the artists seem to like me and I promote reading to a community that doesn’t have a lot of options – a great library and some books in Butlers. Sadly, there used to be bookstores.

The event goes Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday morning. There is food, stuff for kids, and a lot to do. The nice thing is you can talk to artists and find out about the art – santos, jewelry, weaving, furniture, and contemporary art.

It is a nice community event in a great family-friendly setting. It is also nice to see Hispanics, Native Americans, Anglos, cowboys, kids, and clergy come to look, buy, and learn.
